Shooting at Hips Cycle in Brantford Ontario
What a great way to spend the day. Shortly after 10:00 Barry wheeled up in a big old red Dodge with his sporty in the back, we shouted over to Bwano (Danny) Bailey "Lets Roll" and I kicked my old girl over and we were off, not knowing exactly what the day was to entail. We did know we were heading over to Brantford to drop off Barry's Sportster to replace a clutch and a throw out bearing. Seems the last guy who owned the bike, rode her like he stole her. Shock! When we got to Hipp's Cycle Johny took one look at that old Sporty and said "she needs a little TLC doesn't she ? " and I said "that's why we brought her here John". John's precise attention to detail immediately brought several points to Barry's attention and I could see Barry's eye's getting as big as 21" inch Rims. John did as well and said to Barry right away " Don't worry we can just fix the clutch and the throw out bearing for now to get you going down the road and we can fix the rest of the stuff later on, as Barry's sphincter began to relax. John pushed Barry's Baby back to the shop and got Barry going with a work order to be sure that only what Barry wanted fixed on his bike would be fixed. By then Bwano had already began to break out his gear. Cameras, lenses, lights, filters, stands, ect., ect., I mean he had them set up everywhere. That's the thing about a great photographer, he never goes anywhere with out his gear. By that time Jimmy (Hippy himself) had surfaced wondering what the f....ck was going on here but when he noticed Bwano stepping out, I think he new something was arie. That's when it started, just like puppets on a string, stand here, look this way, glasses on, glasses off, move this bike here, move that light over there. I could tell Hippy was being as patient as he possibly could as I am sure Hippy is not used to people telling him what to do or how to do it but, all the same he appreciates Dan's talent and just rolled with it as he has seen the finished product before and who doesn't appreciate it when a good man is able to apply his trade well. All this time Cory is flying through the shoot on this bike or another one doing test drives (Sucks to be him)and all the while he is keeping the show rolling inside the shop. It took a while before we could talk him into stopping for a pic, but we did eventually. In fact there is a brilliant almost magical shot taken by Dan that will be the Hips' Cycle Family Christmas Card. Keep your eyes peeled for that one. As we moved through the sequence of events, I had the opportunity to speak to Hippy about the back drop we were using for the shoot. He told me that the Garage behind us was an exact replica to scale and nail of the original garage used for the HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTOR CO. back in 1903. When the shoot was over, Jim took me through the inside, he has done this place up nice. man. He has even had an original period drill press installed and old tools placed in the shed just right and to top it all off he has an antique anvil there too that looked like they would use it to customise certain parts. It simulates to a tee just how it must have looked at the end of a typical work day for the Boys in the Garage. Everything in the shed was over a hundred years old. This place looks VERY COOL ! You will have to see this little piece of history when you drop in and see the guys down at the shop. You will be impressed with the authenticity that they put into this place. Jim told me that Jean Davidson herself (No, not my Mother) was almost around to personally sign the door, when she came to Port Dover one time to do a big signing for her book that she had written, however she got held up in the typical kayos and the grid lock traffic that day that always surrounds that event during Friday the 13th. . After I had the Grand Tour from Hippy and a couple of quick coolies (Crystal of course) we loaded up all the gear and headed directly for K-Town.
Thanks for the great day eh boys !, I had alot of fun just hangin out and readers, please remember to drop in to see Jim (Hippy), John or Cory at Hip's Cycle in Brantford Ontario Canada at 900 Colbourne St. should you need any repairs to your ride or wish to just have a look at the replica Harley Davidson Motor Company Garage. I promise "You won't be disappointed"
Oh yes and thanks for the great Pic's Bwano. (More to follow for sure)

Do Something Nice for Mrs. Rice
A fund raiser for a worthy cause is in the works by the team at Rider 88.
On Friday evening I received a visit from a friend that we ride with from time to time. His Name is Berry Rice. I hadn't seen him in a little while as it seems he has really hit a streak of tough luck. He looked as if he had been through the ringer when he pulled into the ranch on that old 1200 Sporty ( Jay Boom Bluhm's old ride) and when I asked if he was alright, he started to explain the shit to me. He told me how he had just come from his fathers grave site . His Dad he had just placed in his grave just one year ago, You know, hoping that it may help shed a little wait off his back. It didn't look like it had provided much relief for the poor guy. I said man you got to come on in and tell me about it brother, I've got broad shoulders, you know that. We sat in the back and that is where he laid it all out for me to hear and It wasn't very pretty. It seems that a couple of days prior Berry sat with his Mom almost a year to the day after she lost her husband and she expressed to her son her despair. She told him she has Leukemia, not just Leukemia but a rare form of it. She has been off work now for some time dew to her struggle with this disease, battling the exhaustion and weakness that she feels and she explained to him that she only had short term disability Insurance coverage at Trinity Lodge where she worked. She had been taking some medication already, however the pills that she was taking at first had made the symptoms of disease only much worse. So she is now taking another drug that seems to give her some relief of the worst of symptoms, however she is still struggling with a few side affects from the medication but it is doing better than the alternative. This medication is purely experimental however and because of that, the drugs are not yet approved by the FDA. (Federal Drug Administration) Thus, her Employers Insurance plan will not pay for the drugs under short term disability. However because of the Huge expense of this medication (almost an incredible cost of $10,000.00, monthly !!!!) she received the first batch of medicine that I might ad, was paid for by an "anonymous" donor, that will cover her for the first three months. Great Eh!, After that her short term disability will run out at work so she will have no income and no coverage for any medication, and with out that medication she will endure great discomfort over time and eventually succumb to the disease. Doesn't paint a lovely picture for this young woman at what I deem as a " young age" .53 and this is no way to be living her dash, is it? I looked at Berry as he was telling me all this and I could tell it was just ripping him apart inside as he told me. Hell, it was ripping me apart for Christ sake. When it was all said and done I said to him "doesn't that just fu..... suck ! and he looked at me with such total despair and said in this pitifully hopeless manner " Ya man, and what can "I" do about it ? As he and his wife are like most other folks right now and working very very hard to just make ends meet. I thought for a moment contemplating what "I"/ and all my GREAT friends of course, could do to help out a buddy here. Then it hit me. It came to me just Like when you hear your bike kick over, on a cold cold morning and start, and I said to him, I know how I can help Bro. We can put a fund raiser togeather, a poker run or something like that and try and come up with some cash to help her out as I have had some experience with doing this sort of thing before for downed bikers or what ever. Berry, Why he just didn't know what to say, he was speechless for the first 5 minutes I swear. But the more I spoke to him, about how I thought we could pull it togeather, how I knew a lot of good people and I am sure that they would help if they could. The more it seemed to give him at least a little relieve sort of thing, you know the feeling that, holy shit man!, perhaps there is help out there. There really are people out there that care. So here we go folks just like starting out on a big v-twin, here starts the process and so starts the planning. So keep your eyes peeled folks, for the postings ahead. As I am sure to write about our plans as they come togeather for this gig. Until that time, when things get you down, please, please try and remember this article, and remember, when you think that you have it bad, you don't have to look to far to find someone else that may have it a hell of a lot tougher than you have it , but, if you really try hard and just pool your resources togeather, that there is hope out there and there is always something that can be done.

Speaking from Experience
"This is a message of motorcycle awareness to every motorist out there. Wake the F up people! There are motorcycles everywhere on the roads and it is not fair to motorcyclists like myself that are riding within' the law and within common sense to have knuckle head auto drivers who can't seem to see a motorcycle on the road around them.
I think that it should be mandatory for every motorist out there to have to take a motorcycle safety course weather or not the individual chooses to ride or not. It should be part of getting a drivers license in the beginning. If I hadn't already earned my M class on my license, I would take the time to learn. I wish that the roads were a safer, more aware place for people to enjoy their motorcycles.
