So Here Is The Difference

New riders on the road every day, and they all got a lot of questions with regard to maintenance, performance, equipment and general overall care of there Motorcycle. Now this little ditty I am about to share with you all, is my personal opinion only and is purely based on my own experiences over the years.
After been riding for just under 40 years and owning a dozen or so motorcycles. Some of which were pieces of crap that were just able to run, all the way up to owning and riding some real rockets, I have come to summarize the following regarding the comparison of dealing with an independent, Mom and Pop Motorcycle Shop or Do you take your bike to an OEM/Original Equipment Manufacturers Dealership for the best results. 90 % of the time you will find me gravitating toward the Mom and Pop Shop and for several reasons. Usually you will find the labour rate at these smaller shops are anywheres from half to three quarters of the price to get work done. The head wrench is usually the guy that owns the shop and he probably answers the phone too, so if you are calling for inquiries about the work being done he has probably done the work on your bike himself. This guy has probably got into the business because he has a passion for Bikes not just bucks. No offence meant to the folks who work at the larger Dealerships as I know some of these guys personally and they do a great job, but, it is a job to them. They really have NO vested interest in you or your bike. Here is a perfect example. I deal a lot with
Hip's Cycle out of Brantford. Johny Hipkin and his Father Jim Hipkin A.K.A. Hippy own the Shop and John has his Brother in Law Cori operating as his main wrench. Great group of guys. This year I took my scoot into their shop in the Spring as the battery was not holding a charge. Of course it was a bit of a NUT House as everybody and there Dad was in a hurry to get out and ride and they were putting alot of pressure on these guys to get their bikes done. I show up on a Friday afternoon and ask Johny if he can help me out. He asked me what was going on with it and I explained the particulars. Example # 1 the guy behind the counter knows what the fuck he is talking about. He asked me if I had checked my voltage Regulator to which I replied no he gave me some tools and said he was crazy busy but he new I was in from K Town so he told me what I needed to do so that he could quickly test my rig and hopefully get me rolling again. I did so but was out of luck it was my Stator (part of the charging system for those who are unaware). So I had to leave my bike with him. A 1 week lay over but when I returned to pick up my bike Johny explained the work they had done and told me that he replaced my clutch cable with a slightly used cable that he had laying around NO CHARGE. As the one that was on there was toast as well as the work to my charging system. This scenario verses Example # 2
Before going to my regular mechanic I always try to fix most things myself so when my Ride was not charging the battery the first thing I started to look for was a short as the bike is 15 years old. Low and behold I found that my tail light wiring was a little shaky so upon taking it apart to replace the wiring I broke the little brass connector that rests on the light bulb in the tail light assembly. So I get Derby and his Gal Jube Jube to give me a lift over to the closest Harley dealership. When I get there I head straight for the Parts counter. I show buddy the piece and ask if he has any of these in stock. He says what is it. So i tell him the story. He says give me a minute (he really means 15 minutes) then he comes back and says is this an aftermarket tail light and I replied yes. 15 minutes go by with him peering into his Parts Catalog and his reply was looks like you need to purchase the whole tail light assembly for somewheres around $ 350.00 or so. I asked if he might have an old one kicking around that I could salvage the piece from. Or maybe one of his wrenches might have one kicking around in his tool box. His reply was, WE don't do that because if they did and the part didn't work, then the costumer figures they are to blame. Thanks Alot For helping out a brother, Buddy.
Enough said, I think don't you agree, read between the Lines. Drop in to see Hippy in Brantford if you need to have some work done. I always recommend him if I can, he is on Colbourne Street in Brantford. Look him up and tell him Harley sent you

:::: Dog's Nest at Dover :::: Friday, August 13, 2010 ::::: "Friday the 13th at Port Dover & Dog’s Nest at DoverOur plan is to stage a three-day music and camping festival every Friday the 13th commencing in 2010 (in the warmer months only). This event will include a range of music, camping and food/merch vendors, to be held on property to the east of Port Dover.
Due to the growing nature of the Port Dover Friday the 13th Event, we are very confident that adding this concert and camping venue will allow for this growth and establish the event as support and an excellent accommodation/entertainment option for Friday the 13th attendees in a safe and controlled manner.
The anticipated attendance for the Friday the 13th event in August 2010 is 150,000 – 200,000 people."
