Sin City

It starts out on a dark wet uneasily calm night in a typical niebourhood in a G.M. Town. The wind occasionally gusts and the leaves that were barely hangin on would rustle in the night air and shimmer in the light coming from the moon between the clouds. I was cold and tired and walking as fast as could be expected under the condition I should be in. I stopped when I got to the corner under the lamp post and reached into my inside breast pocket of my leather to pull out a wafer thin pack of smokes that had obviously been touring with me in my back pocket all night, It still had two or three TM's (taylor mades) left in it so I pulled one out. I reached down into my pants pocket to get the Zippo out of my skin tight Levi's. I remember I must have almost been out of fluid as it took me 4 or 5 strikes before I could get it to flame. But Zippo's are like Harley's if you even do the minamum maintenance like top up the fluids change the flint once and while they will never let you down. As I'm standing there lighting my smoke two of the BOYZ come rumbling up the road with a third just half a block behind. He had the Pan Head I remember as they have this distinct sound especially on a cool night. But I payed no never mind as it was common to see the Boyz out touring at this time of night. You see the Bars had already closed and they had probably picked up what ever they could and would be heading for the local booze can just up the road. "Crazy's Bar". I had never been in there "Yet" but rest assured with the company I was keeping these days It was more than likely I would end up being a regular there one day no doubt. Like my old man used to always say, "Birds of a feather always end up flocking together sooner or later that is." As I drew a long hard heavy drag on my smoke and exhaled. The large bellowing cloud of smoke amassed in front of me, suppose it was half from my warm breath and half from the heavy toke but I remember as I walked through it, I noticed something peculiar about those Boyz that cruised by, they had thier lights out and had cruised down to the end of the block had turned around stopped for a couple of minutes and were now heading back up my way. I thought to myself. Fu.... this is all I need, some fuc.... yahoos trying to bump up there night with a little bit of fun at my expense. There was this old green garage just up a couple of yards on the right hand side. I made about 5 or six quick leaping steps and I tucked my self close to the outside wall standing in poor old Mrs. Travans flower garden. I remember thinking she will sure have something to say about this in the morning. Now I knew this neighbourhood like the back of my hand. I had played tag, kick the can and hidden in the bushes with little Sylvia right through this neighbourhood all the time growing up. I had to put together a plan and real quick I could see that. That is of course if I didn't want to get my ass kicked for the sake of just getting my ass kicked. I figured if I go around the back of the garage down through the dozen or so Corn stalks Mrs. Travan plants every year, hop the fence into Old Mr. Steven backyard and Geez I hope his old dog Corky doesn't go on barking like he always does. Then I think, now if I come out over the fence at the back of his yard and go down through the parking lot at the apartments and over to Secord woods, I can then cut across to my house and be home free, Yes.

RIDER 88 Visits Kitchener Harley Davidson

I really want to extend a word of Thanks to Mike Duncan the General Manager and his crew at Kitchener Harley Davidson for the eager invitation to have RIDER 88 come in and visit his shop right here in K-Town / Kitchener On. Canada that is. This place was very easy to find actually. It's not far off the 401 if you take HWY # 8 north toward Kitchener. For better directions please follow the link on there Web http://www.kitchenerharley.com/ that aught to get you there. We being, RIDER 88's photographer Sherelle Crawford and I had arrived shortly after 1:00 p.m. to a warm welcome by a wonderful Gal by the name of Treena at reception, she pleasantly paged her Sales Manager, Nathan Wymenga right away to let him know that we had arrived . Great guy, very approachable. Why he is the kind of guy who really looks you in the eye when you talk, he appears to listen real well to what you say and genuinely tries to be very accommodating. Like a friend I used to have would say, "He is the kind of guy you would cross the street to have a beer with" (D.B.) This shop has actually been here at 2255 Kingsway Drive Kitchener On. CDN for a long, long time. I remember when I first came to K-town back in 1983 It was Blake and his wife Sandy who owned the dealership back then and I think they actually had another Harley Dealership at another location before that. Now the building here has seen several face lifts in those days, I think the last one was around ten years or so ago. The building really has this Arizona Adobe look from the outside, nice. a modern Art Deco going on inside, at least I think that is what those interior design people call it. Nathan, kindly introduced us right away to some of his fellow employee's while we were there. One of them being Nastassia, who was the General Merchandise Manager. Let me tell you, if you want the latest in Harley gear and the latest in Harley apparel, why she is the gal to see. I really know I should have spent more time with her but Nathan was persistent and certainly had my attention with this months feature item . That was the NEW 2010 883 N IRON Sportster with a Black Denim finish. How did he know that I ride a sporty the Dog. Only mine is a little older it's a 1995 done with the same look, same paint. I love it, very nice. I call it stove pipe black, Harley calls it Denim. Hmmmm! I managed to get Nathan in front of the camera for a bit, shock, as this guy is very camera shy, ya right. Nathan jumped at the opportunity to tell us about this stealthy looking "Stovepipe black" Sportster that he had right there in his well populated showroom. Watch the demonstration on the following post giving a brief description of this bike and telling us about a few up coming events at Kitchener Harley. Over all the visit was a blast the day seemed to quickly run short but rest assured, RIDER 88 will return as we do plan to run a few Tech Tips from Steve Gunther Kitchener Harley's Service Manager. Be sure to keep tuning up and tuning in to catch the next Post. Until Then broters and sisters come on in and see the folks down here at Kitchener Harley, tell them Harley from RIDER 88 sent you.

The first of it's Kind the Daimler Motorcycle

Although Mr. Gotlieb Daimler has laid claim to fame for the invention of the first gas powered motorcycle, he is really only responsible for merging a gas powered internal combustion engine with a wooden framed bicycle, thus became the invention of the Motorcycle in 1885. The 4 stroke engine used was actually mastermind by Mr. Nicolaus Otto hence the name he gave it "The Otto cycle engine" . Even though Otto had invented the engine in 1867 it wasn't until 1885 when Mr.Daimler who was an employee of The Otto Motor Company at the time merged the two inventions togeather to invent the 'Motorcycle. This was just the first of many variations of it's kind to follow. These fore fathers like Daimler and Roper went on to develop their ideas and test other projects in the automobile industry while other great inventors from this era continued to forge ahead. Such great men like William Harley, Arthur and Walter Davidson who band together to start the great
Harley-Davidson Motor Company back in 1903
